JEFFERSON HOUSE

Mid-century oasis

Perched atop a majestic coral rock ridge in the heart of Coconut Grove, this private mid-century masterpiece stands as an architecturally significant gem. Crafted by the renowned Mimo architect, Peter Jefferson, during the pioneering era of modern architecture in Coconut Grove back in 1960, the “Glass House” remains a paragon of excellence. Its unrivaled status has earned accolades in numerous interior design magazines and publications, solidifying its place as the pinnacle of Florida Modern design.

Entrusted with the task of renovating and restoring this magnificent residence, Nandez Design studio embarked on a transformative journey, skillfully infusing contemporary materials into the interiors while preserving the home’s original essence and honoring Jefferson’s visionary spirit.

Imposing walls of glass, robust tubular concrete columns, and exposed wooden beams encompass this single-story sanctuary, creating an atmosphere of Zen-like tranquility. Lush tropical gardens envelop the expansive property, while a captivating coral rock grotto courtyard takes center stage, encircled by generously proportioned windows that flood the entire house with natural light. This exquisite feature not only illuminates every corner but also offers breathtaking views of the surrounding verdant scenery.

Adding to the allure, an extraordinary Scavolini Kitchen, equipped with state-of-the-art Miele appliances and adorned with quartz countertops, presides over the courtyard “jungle,” seamlessly merging the boundaries between the interior and nature’s embrace.
